What is in a name? Corbin Daniel ..............

Corbin Daniel Pokrandt aka "our future little guy" coming really soon ..........Daniel & I browsed books and kept our ears open for just the perfect name for our future son! Then I was browsing boy names on this biblical baby names web-site and found "Corban" = a gift, an offering to the temple! Though I like the spelling of Corbin with an "i", I began to pray and my mind went to a sermon that our Pastor recently spoke on about children and how they are a "gift" from the Lord. They are gifts from God for us to raise in His ways, but they are trully not "ours." I wish I could think of the passage(s) in the Bible that he referred too (I know I have them some where here). So I took this meaning and the name Corbin and Daniel immediately liked it (as well as my friends and sister too! - thanks!). We then decided after his daddy to make Daniel his middle name. So here is the full meaning and scripture references .......................

"Corbin" - Meaning: Gift, an offering to the temple. Biblical context: The Biblical baby name Corban is Hebrew in origin and it's meaning is a gift or offering consecrated to God. Corban is pronounced kor-ban'. Corban was an offering made to God at the Temple. The Book of Levitucus contains details of each corban and how it is to be presented. The word corban also appears in the New Testament, when Jesus condemns the Pharisees for their false doctrine which taught children to pronounce "corban" over their goods and thus reserve them for their own selfish use, instead of helping their parents. It is also believed, that Jesus Christ was not only a messiah, but also a sacrifice or corban to atone for the sins of mankind. Leviticus 6:9-13; 23:16; Exodus 29:38-42; Numbers 28:9-15; Mark 7:11; Matthew 15:5.
